I have just upgraded a client from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011. Client runs his own exchange server, and has a vertical market website solution somewhere else. Now with the 2011 upgrade, just typing the IP address doesn't get you much in the way of remote services as it did with the 2003 version. I never worried about the certificate warnings on 2003 because the system worked by entering IP address. Now if I just type the IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/remote I can get some info, but I can't log into the server or any other desktop as I get bounced out with a certificate error.
I need to configure remote.mydomain.com to point to the IP address of the server, The MX and A records have been working for years with mail.mydomain.com going to his server andwww.mydomain.com going to the hosted server. Is it just as easy as entering a new A record with remote.mydomain.com pointing to the ip address of the SBS server? Do I have to do something with CName? I am sure this is not a unique configuration, but I haven't found anything in my research.
